Responsibilities

The Associate Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal support in handling disciplinary cases referred to OHRM for appropriate action and providing advice on human resources and administrative matters, in the context of formal proceedings before the Organization's internal justice system relating to appeals of disciplinary matters filed before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal.



Education

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law or other related areas. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).


Work Experience

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible legal experience, including litigation at the national or international level is required. Experience in litigating administrative law matters is highly desirable. Experience in conducting investigations or disciplinary matters in an international organization is also highly desirable.
No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).


Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English (both written and oral) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.


Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
